Rhonda holds a B.A. in English and an M.A. in Public Relations and Organizational Communication. Because of her passion for literacy, she founded the event Free Verse. The inaugural event was held to honor Dr. Martin Luther King's Jr.'s life and legacy. It proved to be an instant community favorite that raised much needed funds, volunteers and book donations to help combat metro Detroit's low literacy levels. This passion for literacy was a natural progression from her work as an educator. She taught the Creative Writing component of Wayne State University's award-winning Math Corps program and was a Writer-in-Residence with the nationally renowned Inside Out Literary Arts Project.
With the buzz worthy program, The Business of Art ( watch here and here ), she provided educational opportunities for Wayne State University College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts alumni to learn business practices through sessions that feature individual experiences and anecdotes as well as concrete business principles.
Rhonda currently teaches writing workshops, communication courses at local colleges and universities and facilitates corporate training.
